Evaluation of Media Literacy Workshops for School Students Organised by Hessischer Rundfunk

The project accompanies and evaluates the media literacy workshop for students offered by Hessischer Rundfunk in its new media literacy studio CREATOR ROOM.

Project Description

The project provides scientific support for a media literacy workshop offered by Hessischer Rundfunk for students in grade 8 and above in its media literacy studio, the CREATOR ROOM. Teachers can participate in the four-hour workshop together with their classes. In the CREATOR ROOM, students learn how to critically evaluate online information and work in small teams to create their own journalistic social media posts. The project investigates the process quality of the workshop with regard to characteristics derived from teaching research, such as the degree of structure in the workshops or the cognitive activation of the students. Furthermore, the students' perception of their acquisition of skills through the workshop is examined. Initially, questionnaires are used, which the students fill out after the workshop.

Project Objectives

The project aims to provide information about the quality of the workshops offered by Hessischer Rundfunk, thereby enabling evidence-based further development of the programme.
