Abstract (english):
When establishing a career in adulthood, two major socioemotional ingredients are expected to affect people's success: how people act (personality) and what motivates them to act this way (motivation). However, little is known about whether and how personality and motivation change together and how their possible dynamic interplay predicts success. We investigated the roles that changes in personality and expectancy beliefs played in explaining occupational success in 4121 participants assessed after high school (Mage ¼ 22.80, SDage ¼ 0.70; 63% female) and about 20 years later. We used latent change models and moderated structural equation modeling to investigate correlated change and latent change interactions of personality and expectancy beliefs in predicting success. Results illustrated that besides being related in a nomological net, personality and expectancy beliefs also illustrated a strong interrelatedness in change across time. We found the clearest joint change dynamics between emotional stability, conscientiousness, self-concept, and self-efficacy. Changes in personality and expectancy beliefs were furthermore associated with objective and subjective occupational success. The results call for a more integrative view on personality-motivation dynamics across time for understanding the long-term adaptive ingredients of occupational success stories in adulthood.

Abstract (english):
Teachers play a major role in the effectiveness of student learning. Teacher's competence contributes to their classroom practice. We applied a generic model of teacher competence to the specific context of teachers' promotion of self-regulated learning (SRL) in the classroom, and investigated teachers' competence profiles regarding SRL (study 1) and how teachers' competence can moderate the effectiveness of teacher training (study 2). In the first step, in study 1 191 teachers were assessed according to different characteristics that have been found to be important aspects of teacher competence (knowledge, beliefs, and self-efficacy). To investigate how these characteristics co-occur in teachers we determined latent profiles of teacher competence regarding SRL. To this end, and the data were subjected to a latent profile analysis that yielded two levels of competence profile: low and high competence to promote SRL. These competence profiles were positively associated with teachers' self-reported SRL practice in the classroom. Next, to test whether these competence profiles affect teachers' competence development, we conducted a training study. In this study 2, we examined the effects of an 8-h long teacher training about SRL on the development of teachers' competence (knowledge, beliefs, self-efficacy) and on their SRL practice in the classroom with a repeated measures control group design. Forty-five teachers participated in the training, and these teachers and their 543 students evaluated the effectiveness of the training. Training effects were found on the teacher level, but not on the student level. Teachers who participated in the training outperformed the control teachers in their development of self-efficacy to foster SRL, and their perceived SRL practice. Moreover, teachers' competence profiles moderated the training effect, showing that teachers with an initially high competence benefitted more from the training. Applying a generic model of teacher competence to the context of promoting SRL seems beneficial to inspire future research on indicators of teachers' SRL practice. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
Especially in university hospitals, many physicians have to fulfil multiple roles as they treat patients, conduct research and act as clinical teachers. The present study focuses upon the latter role and analyses which attitudes and motivational patterns guide physicians in their teaching activities. With regard to motivation, we draw on self-determination theory and distinguish between autonomous and controlled motives. In terms of attitude, we examine the extent to which clinical teachers use teaching activities that relate to a transmissive or constructivist paradigm. These questions are investigated using data from a questionnaire study conducted at a German university hospital. The respondents were 314 physicians who participated in one of two didactic qualification workshops at different points in their professional career. Physicians reported higher scores for autonomous types of motivation (derived from the self) than for controlled types (influenced by external factors). Further, we found that overall, the physicians considered both transmissive and constructivist concepts relevant for their teaching, but agreed even stronger to the constructivist paradigm. Latent class analyses revealed distinct patterns of attitudes towards teaching, but no relation between different motivations and teaching attitudes was found. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship between teacher quality and teachers' engagement in professional development (PD) activities using data on 229 German secondary school mathematics teachers. We assessed different aspects of teacher quality (e.g. professional knowledge, instructional quality) using a variety of measures, including standardised tests of teachers' content knowledge, to determine what characteristics are associated with high participation in PD. The results show that teachers with higher scores for teacher quality variables take part in more content-focused PD than teachers with lower scores for these variables. This suggests that teacher learning may be subject to a Matthew effect, whereby more proficient teachers benefit more from PD than less proficient teachers. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:

Abstract (english):
Many researchers have a positive attitude towards open science and are motivated to apply them. However, applying them requires a change in one's daily practices. Different factors might challenge a behavioral change. The introduced study wants to get deeper insights into the reasons and influences that lead early career researchers to apply open practices in their daily research and teaching work. The participatory design let ten participants choose open practices they wanted to learn and adapt in either research or teaching scenarios. The study accompanied them and collected their positive and challenging experiences via diverse methods like interviews, diary entries and workshops. This paper introduces the study design and preliminary results. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
Currently, a vast number of the population faces several barriers like the lack of motivation and guidance that impede them from practicing physical activities. Thus, we developed the Pilates Correction Game (PCG), a gamified application designed to support learners with the practice of Pilates. The PCG is composed of two applications: a smartphone application that tracks the learner's back posture and a PC game that steers a rocket and calculates a score based on the smartphone's information. In this paper, we present a user experience evaluation on the PCG. Our results show that PCG was positively perceived by participants and in most cases helped them to improve their posture while doing the Pilates exercise. Furthermore, it is also motivating them to continue with the training. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
