EiKlar – EEG in the classroom

The EiKlar project investigates learning processes using neurophysiological measures. The aim of the project is to gain a better understanding of learning processes inside the classroom.

Project Description

The EiKlar project (EEG in the classroom) is about measuring learning processes (e.g., during a group work phase) with the help of portable EEG devices. We investigate the extent to which the learning processes of high- and low-performing learners differ depending on instructional quality. In the long term, this may help to better address the individual needs and entry requirements of learners inside the classroom. At present, neuroscientific methods are used almost exclusively in highly controlled laboratory situations to study cognitive processes (e.g. attention) during learning. However, learning in a school or university context is dynamic, complex and interactive. Therefore, this project will use small portable EEG devices in learning environments that are more similar to real classroom teaching. The portable EEG devices are also well suited for working with children. They do not significantly interfere with the learning process, but provide a direct and high-resolution insight into cognitive processes during learning.
