HAND IN HAND – Empowering teachers across Europe to deal with social, emotional and diversity-related career challenges

Project Description

The project "HAND IN HAND: Empowering teachers across Europe to deal with social, emotional and diversity related career challenges" is an intervention study (Policy Experimentation) that started in February 2021. With a duration of three years, the study is supervised and coordinated by six European countries (Slovenia, Sweden, Denmark, Croatia, Austria and Portugal).

Project Objectives

The main goal of the project is to develop teachers‘ social and emotional competencies as well as their diversity awareness (SEDA) in order to equip them for the complexities of working with increasingly diverse classes and to enable them to deal flexibly with new challenges. The project also focuses on teachers' well-being by demonstrating how the development of SEDA skills simultaneously promotes teachers‘ self-care and assigns a central role to their voices. The HAND: Empowering Teachers Programme will be tested by using a quasi-experimental design with control groups (before-after effects) in five consortium countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Sweden, Austria, Portugal), teachers (primary and lower secondary) being the direct target group. Additionally, we will also include principals and school counsellors.
