MDR reports on the meaning of summer schools – with assessments by Prof. Dr. Mareike Kunter.

The Corona pandemic has created learning gaps for many students. Again and again, summer schools are brought into play during the vacations to make up for these gaps. But how useful are such programs? MDR interviewed various stakeholders and experts, including DIPF-Director Kunter. She sees potential positive effects from well-designed and individually tailored summer schools, but believes it is more advisable to focus on the time after the vacations: "I think it makes more sense to come up with really good concepts for the school year and then start in the school year in a well-ordered, well-structured way than to quickly create something now in the coming weeks, but which then doesn't really make sense."
