Saving and re-using research data from the Framework Programme for the Promotion of Empirical Educational Research – part project DIPF

The co-operation project is funded by the Federal Ministry of education and Research (BMBF): DIPF, GESIS and IQB will collaborate in developing strategies for saving and re-using research data from the Framework Programme for the Promotion of Empirical Educational Research.

SchiWa – Schools in Times of Change

Schools in Times of Change (Schule im Wandel, SchiWa) started with a preliminary study for larger-scale mixed-method studies of the systematic and historical assessment of change in the German school system.

SchuWaMi – School Change in a Society Shaped by Migration – School Culture(s) in the Current Context of Forced Migration

The project SchuWaMi examines how schools in Germany have reacted to the increased reception of refugee children and youths, which institutional changes have taken place and are still taking place in this context. It also looks at whether and how schools succeed in promoting the social participation of children and youths with a refugee background.

Science [makes] practice: what works well in instruction?

One of the central tasks of empirical educational research concerns the genesis of scientific findings that can serve as a basis for decision-making in education. Yet, both scientists and practitioners are unhappy owing to an often unsatisfactory transfer of research findings. Researchers have complained that the adaptation of findings to practice is often delayed. On the other hand, practitioners have argued that research findings are not sufficiently compatible with their daily practice.

Searching Educational Information on the Internet and on the German Education Server

Initially, the project aimed to deliver a general overview of the subject area of "searching for educational information" and empirical insights into user-group related information needs and the respective information services they use. These insights would provide the basis for a user-oriented perspective and based on Web Information Retrieval approaches, the project would analyse the specific search conduct applied to searching the internet, and the German Education Server (Eduserver) in particular.

Securing information from the project “Information service Open Educational Resources”

Information resources, materials and technical structures were stored sustainably for the project "Information service Open Educational Resources (OERinfo)" – subject to the German Education Server.

SGS – Strengthening of German-supported Schools in Kabul

Three model schools in Kabul were supported in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit. Computer based assessment tools were employed to ensure a transparent and fair selection process of gifted students.

Slice-Up – The Thin Slices Procedure: Application to Instruction and the Analysis of Judgement Processes

In the Slice-Up project, teaching quality is assessed on the basis of short videos. For this purpose, laypersons watch short excerpts from instructional videos and judge them based on their first impression (the so-called Thin Slices Technique). The interactions between teachers and students are important for the quality of teaching. This includes, for example, successful support by teachers or lessons with as few disruptions as possible.

SLICES – Using the thin slices technique to analyse school lessons: A reanalysis of large-scale datasets on constructive handling of student errors

The project SLICES examines whether the thin slices technique can be used to efficiently study educational processes in very large samples, as they are common in large scale assessments. The study focuses on the "constructive handling of student errors" in the classroom, an indicator of teaching and learning that is considered to be of particular importance for adaptive interactions with heterogeneous groups of learners.

Social Bookmarking / Social Tagging Platform Into the Context of the German Education Server (Edutags)

The project "Testing and Integrating a Social Bookmarking / Social Tagging Platform into the Context of the German Education Server: Setup of a Prototypical Resource Pool for STEM Subjects" (Edutags) targeted the development and testing of a prototypical platform based on Web 2.0 applications for collecting ("bookmarking") and indexing ("tagging") thematically specific information resources and instructional material for so-called STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

SoQuZ – Social Data as Sources of Contemporary History

The project "SoQuZ - Social Data as Sources of Contemporary History" aimed to develop a framework concept for a research data infrastructure in contemporary historical research.
