Was sind Merkmale erfolgreicher Schulsysteme? (DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (english): What are the reasons for the differences in student achievement which we can observe from international comparisons? What features characterise a successful school system? What kinds of correlations can be determined for student achievement, socio- cultural contexts and the government of school systems by taking into account the special conditions of a federal state structure? The International Comparative Study Working Group is a team of educational researchers from the German Institute for International Educational Research (based in Frankfurt/Main and Berlin, Germany), from Humboldt University, Berlin and the universities of Duisburg-Essen, Leipzig, Mainz and Münster. The Working Group considers these questions as their guideline for a systematic comparison of the education systems of Canada and Germany. This study connects systematic information on the history, structure, government features and socio-cultural framework conditions of the school systems to results from empirical educational research. The presentations and analyses apply to the situation in the country as a whole as well as to the individual federal states (provinces and Länder states respectively). Based on data from the PISA studies, characteristic features of the education systems in Canada and Germany are illustrated at the level of provinces and Länder states, and correlated with student competencies.
