Abstract (english):
This study illustrates an overarching psychometric approach of broad relevance to investigations of 2 sources of construct-relevant psychometric multidimensionality present in many complex multidimensional instruments routinely used in psychological and educational research. These 2 sources of construct-relevant psychometric multidimensionality are related to (a) the fallible nature of indicators as perfect indicators of a single construct, and (b) the hierarchical nature of the constructs being assessed. The first source is identified by comparing confirmatory factor analytic (CFA) and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) solutions. The second source is identified by comparing first-order, hierarchical, and bifactor measurement models. To provide an applied illustration of the substantive relevance of this framework, we first apply these models to a sample of German children (N = 1,957) who completed the Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ-I). Then, in a second study using a simulated data set, we provide a more pedagogical illustration of the proposed framework and the broad range of possible applications of bifactor ESEM models. Abstract (english):
In this paper, we describe the UKP Lab system participating in the HOO 2012 Shared Task on preposition and determiner error correction. Our focus was to implement a highly flexible and modular system which can be easily augmented by other researchers. The system might be used to provide a level playground for subsequent shared tasks and enable further progress in this important research field on top of the state of the art identified by the shared task.

Abstract (english):
Multidimensional item response theory (MIRT) provides an ideal foundation for modeling performance in complex domains, taking into account multiple basic abilities simultaneously, and representing different mixtures of the abilities required for different test items. This article provides a brief overview of different MIRT models, and the substantive implications of their differences for educational assessment. To illustrate the flexibility and benefits ofMIRT, three application scenarios are described: to account for unintended multidimensionality when measuring a unidimensional construct, to model latent covariance structures between ability dimensions, and to model interactionsof multiple abilities required for solving specific test items. All of these scenarios are illustrated by empirical examples. Finally, the implications of using MIRT models on educational processes are discussed.(DIPF/Autor)

Abstract:
Im Semantic Web spielen Ontologien eine wichtige Rolle als Mittel zur Verknüpfung und semantischen Integration von verteilten Daten im Web. Diese Prozesse können vereinfacht werden, wenn die dem Semantic Web zu Grunde liegenden Ontologien bereits bei der Modellierung bestehende Ontologien integrieren. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt Strategien für die Erstellung solcher integrierten Ontologien, fasst einige Richtlinien für diesen Prozess zusammen und stellt Modellierungserfahrungen aus einem Anwendungsfall vor, in dem eine integrierte Forschungskontext- Ontologie erstellt wird. Abstract (english):
In the Semantic Web, ontologies play an important role as a means to enable theinterlinking and the semantic integration of distributed Web data. These processes can besimplified if the underlying ontologies are modeled by integrating already existing SemanticWeb ontologies. This paper describes strategies for building such integrated ontologies, summarizes some guidelines for this process and presents modeling experiences from a usecase in which an integrated research context ontology is created. Abstract (english):
This article deals with the question which criteria make up a Semantic Web application. It will be shown that not all applications that make use of Semantic Web technologies actively contribute to the realization of the Semantic Web vision. In order to illustrate this, several exemplary applications are presented. They employ Semantic Web technologies mainly for goals that are rather independent from the Semantic Web vision. Nevertheless, the development of such applications may in the long run even promote the evolution of the Semantic Web, as will be explained in the course of this article. (DIPF/Autor)
