Abstract (english):
Current lifelong learning platforms offer users a query option to select a wide variety of courses. However, finding a suitable course among the seemingly endless catalogs of options presented by the platforms is not straightforward. We argue that digital counseling can enhance this process. In this paper, we present a set of three formative studies where we explored the main aspects that can provide the counseling needed. The methods comprise an analysis of user profile characteristics and learning analytics indicators (e.g., learning progress/self-regulation) by means of an expert workshop, evaluating the feasibility of current technologies (e.g., natural language processing) for automatically assessing users' competencies, and a survey on the use of Chatbots as the interaction interface between the users and the lifelong learning portals. The analysis resulted in the extraction of basic requirements for digital counseling. We conclude the paper by presenting a system design derived from these studies. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Social research, qualitative and quantitative, has long been the preferred means of selfobservation in industrial societies. The social science data generated in the process are therefore rewarding sources for many fields of contemporary history. A large-scale integration of both quantitative and qualitative social science data into the contemporary historian's practice will aid a fuller reconstruction of the agency of ordinary people and the relations between the social sciences, society, and politics of the past. This article addresses the challenges facing historians re-using social science data. It gives examples of relevant archives and research projects, discussing the historian's method and practice and the ethical, legal, archival and metadata problems awaiting resolution. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
Qualitative science methods have largely been omitted from discussions of open science. Platforms focused on qualitative science that support open science data and method sharing are rare. Sharing and exchanging coding schemas has great potential for supporting traceability in qualitative research as well as for facilitating the reuse of coding schemas. In this study, we present and evaluate QualiCO, an ontology to describe qualitative coding schemas. Twenty qualitative researchers used QualiCO to complete two coding tasks. In our findings, we present task performance and interview data that focus participants' attention on the ontology. Participants used QualiCO to complete the coding tasks, decreasing time on task, while improving accuracy, signifying that QualiCO enabled the reuse of qualitative coding schemas. Our discussion elaborates some issues that participants had and highlights how conceptual and prior practice frames their interpretation of how QualiCO can be used. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
This article presents Interlinking Pictura, a special feature of the digital picture archive Pictura Paedagogica Online. Interlinking Pictura enables the researcher to work with specific pictures stored in Pictura Paedagogica Online in a virtual research environment. Bertuch's Bilderbuch für Kinder, an encyclopaedic publication from the early 19th century, was chosen as a pilot project. The plates and texts of the Bilderbuch are presented with metadata on an open platform based on Wiki technology. The public is invited to supplement the data with additional information. To this end, set tasks can be found, and individual research questions can also be worked on. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Die produktive Vielfalt der Datentypen der interdisziplinären und multimethodischen Bildungsforschung führt zu einer starken Heterogenität bei der Datenbeschreibung. Darunter leidet besonders die Auffindbarkeit der Forschungsdaten, was deren Nachnutzung erschwert. Ein Ziel des Verbund Forschungsdaten Bildung (VerbundFDB) ist es deshalb, die Sichtbarkeit von Daten über das VerbundFDB-Portal zu erhöhen und Forschungsdaten aus verschiedenen Forschungsdatenzentren (FDZ) an zentraler Stelle nachzuweisen. Der VerbundFDB hat zu diesem Zweck einen gemeinsamen Metadatenstandard zur Beschreibung von Studien entwickelt, der sich stark an den Bedarfen der Community der Bildungsforschung orientiert. Dazu gehören etwa die Harmonisierung und Standardisierung der Metadatendokumentation, mit deren Hilfe die dezentral vorliegenden Datenbestände an zentraler Stelle sichtbar und damit recherchierbar gemacht werden können. Für den Ausbau seines zentralen Nachweissystems entwickelte der VerbundFDB mit und für seine Kooperationspartner eine technisch skalierbare Lösung (Harvesting), die die fortlaufende Integration verlässlicher Metadaten über die DOI-Registrierungsagentur da|ra ermöglicht. Seit Mitte 2020 steht dieses niedrigschwellige Angebot zur Metadatenintegration allen da|ra-Nutzer*innen zur Verfügung und wird bereits von mehreren FDZ genutzt. Voraussetzung für die Integration der Datennachweise über da|ra ist die Verwendung des vom VerbundFDB definierten Metadatenstandards und die Bereitstellung von Informationen über die Daten im Umfang und Form eines definierten Metadaten-Kernsets (VerbundFDB-Kernset Bildungsforschung), mit dem die Qualität der Datenbeschreibung institutionenübergreifend sichergestellt werden soll. Die skizzierte Lösung ist grundsätzlich auch auf andere Forschungsfelder adaptierbar. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
The growing amount of open educational resources and the diversity on learning and teaching makes social tagging attractive for the educational field. Social tagging services become valuable in contexts where users can support the enrichment, sharing and management of relevant resources. Potential benefits are the enrichment of imcomplete metadata, which is crucial to offer effective retrieval services. However, user tagging skills need to be fostered if users shall effectively contribute to the idea of collaboratively sharing and creating educational resources. Our results show that users apply specific tags for their learning and teaching resources that we tried to assign to additional tag categories. Based on our results, we suggest improving such services with a more user-centric approach that supports the development of user competencies on social tagging. We will contribute to a better understanding of user tagging behaviour in services focusing on educational resources. On the one hand, this will help us to improve current services. On the other hand, we are able to build services that foster tagging literacy. This will be beneficial for users, which will be able to better manage their digital resources, and for infrastructure providers, which can apply user-generated data to improve their services. Abstract (english):
The paper describes the concept of a federated ecosystem for Open Educational Resources (OER) in the German education system. Here, a variety of OER repositories (ROER) (Muuß-Merholz & Schaumburg, 2014) and reference platforms have been established in the recent past. In order to develop this ecosystem, not only are metadata standards necessary, but also open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are required in order to exchange information. In conclusion, it is essential that all relevant stakeholders agree on an explicit policy to be developed collaboratively. A metadata exchange service can serve to connect all partners. (DIPF/Orig.)
