Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper presents the results of an annotation study focused on the fine-grained analysis of argumentation structures in scientific publications. Our new annotation scheme specifies four types of binary argumentative relations between sentences, resulting in the representation of arguments as small graph structures. We developed an annotation tool that supports the annotation of such graphs and carried out an annotation study with four annotators on 24 scientific articles from the domain of educational research. For calculating the inter-annotator agreement, we adapted existing measures and developed a novel graph based agreement measure which reflects the semantic similarity of different annotation graphs. Abstract (english):
In this paper, we report preliminary results of a small-scale case study about the data citation quantity and quality in research output of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), a longitudinal study analyzing educational processes in Germany across the lifespan. In order to collect research output based on NEPS data, we searched for and examined publications of a randomly selected sample of 72 NEPS data users. Altogether, we found 18 publications to be relevant for citation analysis. Compared to previous studies, the citation behavior in our sample can be assessed as better. However, publications often lack the inclusion of central data citation elements, such as a persistent identifier. The quality of data citations seems to vary across different types of research output. In a follow-up study, we plan to do a comprehensive sampling and analysis of NEPS related research output in order to verify our findings, and also to include further panel studies to compare citation behavior across different studies. Abstract (english):
Although the provision of extracurricular activities at school has a long tradition in some countries, it was only at the beginning of the millennium that the quality of education and extracurricular activities started to receive increased attention in educational policy and practice in Europe. The issue collects empirical evidence on the conditions that lead to effects of extracurricular activities on schools, communities and individual student development.

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (english):
Investigated were temporal changes of publication characteristics in educational research as well as how these characteristics are associated with the traditions of different academic fields and aspects of funding. The main goal was to identify differences in the central characteristics of educational research projects' publications. To this end, the publication output of 270 projects with educational, sociological or psychological backgrounds, with different funding sources and from two different time periods was examined. Results reveal specific funding- and subject-related differences, in particular with regard to peer review status, publication type, productivity, networking, multiple authorship and international focus. Abstract:
Trend analysis and anomaly detection (Chan & Mahoney, 2005; Wei, Kumar, Lolla, & Keogh, 2005) is gaining more and more interest since more than a decade. It gains focus in the new era of web2.0. As part of the project Knowledge Discovery in Scientific Literature, we developed new promising perspectives to detect trend and other interesting temporal patterns of index terms in the literature databases of educational domain. More specifically, we assign categories to index terms and investigate the index term pairs of special interest. We designed several measures to capture the characteristics of the evolution of individual index terms and pairs of index terms. Result shows our methodology is effective to find interesting temporal patterns, e.g. dependency relationship between index terms and helpful to detect trend. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
The intention of this document is to provide a generic model that can serve as the basis for informing discussions across organizations conducting longitudinal data collections, and other data collections repeated across time. The model is not intended to drive implementation directly. Rather, it is primarily intended to serve as a reference model against which implemented processes are mapped, for the purposes of determining where they may be similar to or different from other processes in other organizations. It may also prove useful to those designing new longitudinal studies, providing reminders of steps which may need to be planned. This is a reference model of the process of longitudinal and repeat cross-sectional data collection, describing the activities undertaken and mapping these to their typical inputs and outputs, which would then be described using DDI Lifecycle.
