Abstract:
Abstract (english):
With the recognition of a right to school education at constitutional law level in November 2021 in the context of the Federal Constitutional Court's decision "Bundesnotbremse-II", it is no longer only legal, but also educational science and empirical educational research that are called upon to engage in the discussion about the form, content, statement, scope and limits of this new right - in short, its concretization. This has yet to take place, particularly in the educational sciences. This article therefore aims to take stock of the educational science discourse with regard to the new right to education and, drawing on current research and data, asks: How can a minimum standard of school education be concretized in terms of content?

Abstract (english):
This chapter outlines the strategy used for the external evaluation of the HAND in HAND: Empowering Teachers Across Europe to Deal with Social, Emotional and Diversity Related Career Challenges (HAND:ET) system. We describe the measures targeting socio-emotional competencies and diversity awareness (SEDA) that were selected and central to the evaluation process. Our evaluation strategy includes the use of self-report questionnaires and focus group interviews to measure and explain the impact of the HAND:ET system. In addition, we explore participants' perceptions of the training sessions and identify areas for improving the HAND:ET system. In this chapter, we also present the results of analysis of the pre-test data, with a focus on examining the quality of the questionnaire scales. Finally, we describe the final selection of the self-report scales used in the evaluation of the HAND:ET system, which will help us to assess the HAND:ET system's outcomes. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
This chapter summarises and discusses the ways participants evaluated the HAND in HAND: Empowering Teachers Across Europe to Deal with Social, Emotional and Diversity Awareness Career Challenges ("HAND:ET") system. The evaluation is based on data from open-ended and closed questions in the post-test evaluation questionnaire and from focus group interviews. While the findings complement the experimental outcome evaluation described by Rožman and colleagues (Chapter 8 of this book), they also serve a formative purpose: they help to identify starting points for improving the HAND:ET system. In terms of the summative outcome evaluation, the results show that the participants rate the programme very positively and see it as useful and effective. They report a variety of learning effects in the area of socio-emotional competencies and diversity awareness (SEDA) as well as changes in their lifestyle. Suggestions for improvement were given in the area of content and exercises, implementation of the programme, and the modality. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
A principal focus of the evaluation of the HAND in HAND: Empowering Teachers Across Europe to Deal with Social, Emotional and Diversity Awareness Career Challenges (HAND:ET) system is tracing back the causal effects of the HAND:ET teacher programme. We investigate whether the HAND:ET system had the expected effects on social, emotional competencies and diversity awareness. In this chapter, we present results regarding the programme's effectiveness that are based on questionnaire scales in the evaluation instrument for teachers. The results are part of the experimental outcome evaluation. We compare the experimental group with the control group in the pre- and post-measurements. Our analyses confirmed several of the effects we had hypothesised, especially with respect to emotional competencies. However, the effects vary widely from country to country. The HAND:ET system may therefore be judged as effective, even though its effects are complex, appear to vary across countries, and depend on the particular outcome being examined. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
The affective tone of autobiographical memories may be influenced by age in two ways-by the current age of the remembering individual and by the age of the remembered self at the time of the remembered event. While aging has been associated with more positive autobiographical memories, young adulthood is remembered more positively than other parts of life. We tested whether these effects also show in life story memories and how they act jointly on affective tone; also, we wanted to explore their effects on remembered lifetimes other than early adulthood. We tested effects of current age and age at event on affective tone with brief entire life narratives provided up to five times across 16 years by 172 Germans of both genders, ages 8 to 81 years. Multilevel analyses found an unexpected negativity effect of aging for current age and confirmed a "golden 20s" effect of remembered age. In addition, women told more negative life stories, and affective tone dipped in early adolescence for current age and was remembered as such up to mid-adulthood. Thus, the affective tone of life story memories is jointly influenced by current and remembered age. The absence of a positivity effect in aging is explained by the specific requirements of telling an entire life. We suggest the turmoil of puberty as a reason for the early adolescence dip. Gender differences are potentially explained by differences in narrative style, in depression rates, and in real-life challenges.

Abstract (english):
The present paper focuses on social and emotional learning, and highlights empirical findings on its importance for teachers, students and schools. The importance of social and emotional learning in school settings has been a central focus of research for the last 30 years. The development of teachers' social and emotional competencies has been an essential factor for improving social and emotional learning of students. Only when teachers are able to create a school climate in which students feel included and welcome, students can develop and enhance their social and emotional competencies. In this paper, we outline the main conceptual frameworks on social and emotional learning, emphasizing the CASEL framework, relevant for both young people and adults. We proceed by focusing on teachers' social and emotional competencies, as teachers are one of the key figures for fostering and developing social and emotional competencies in school settings. Afterwards, we address the issue of development of teachers' social and emotional competencies in various settings. The last part of the paper links teachers' and students' social and emotional competencies. We stress the importance of teachers' social and emotional competencies for healthy teacher-student relationships, and students' well-being and academic achievement. As teachers also need support for the development of these competencies, we advocate for comprehensive school-wide approach, in order to ensure the successful implementation of social and emotional learning in classrooms.

Abstract:
Objective: Repeated autobiographical narratives have recently received increased attention as measures of the stability of narrative identity. We propose that one way to map change in life narratives is to rate the degree to which the autobiographical meaning of renarrated events changes. We aimed to test the influence of age, traits (openness, extraversion), and event characteristics on how much autobiographical meaning changes. Method: In waves 3 and 4 of the MainLife study, 123 participants (15-72 years) narrated their lives twice, 4 years apart. Life events that were told both times were rated for change in autobiographical meaning (n = 531). Multilevel models tested individual and event characteristics as predictors. Results: Autobiographical meaning changed more the more individuals were open to experience, the more recently the events had happened, and the more negative emotions the event narratives contained. It was unrelated to extraversion and to the use of autobiographical arguments. A decrease in change with age was due to older individuals narrating older events. Conclusion: Our findings add to understanding how traits and life story are related and underscore the need to further study the role of event characteristics for stability and change in narrative identity. Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (english):
Multiple document comprehension (MDC) is an essential skill for university students, making it beneficial to improve it. We assume that the value assigned to MDC is important to foster MDC since it can be a predictor for behavioral choices, such as working with self-study material. Using self-study material is typical for university learning, but it requires the motivation to improve a skill such as MDC. We define motivation to improve MDC in terms of expectancy, value, and cost to improve MDC. We expect that it is a driving force for working with self-study material on MDC, while it might also depend on the perceived value of MDC. Therefore, this study examined whether the perceived value of MDC predicts the motivation to improve MDC, which is also expected to predict the use of self-study material. A total of 278 students of different majors participated in a MDC assessment and received the opportunity to train their MDC skill with self-study material. The engagement in using the self-study material was measured by the total time and the number of page transitions on the self-study material. The results indicated that the perceived value of MDC partially predicted motivation to improve MDC. However, further analysis revealed mainly no significant effects of the perceived value of MDC and the motivation to improve MDC on the engagement in using the self-study material. However, the log data indicated that the engagement in using the self-study material was not as high as expected. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
