Abstract:
In this article, we study lexicographical methods of collaborative dictionaries. We are particularly interested in the question to what extent they differ from the methods of expert lexicographers and how editorial dictionaries can leverage the user-generated data. We find that the preparation phase is equally important in expertbuilt and collaborative works and will fundamentally shape the final dictionary. For collaborative dictionaries, it is, however, essential to encourage discussion, define transparent decision workflows, and continually motivate the authors. The large user communities provide a high coverage of language varieties, translations, neologisms, as well as personal and spoken language, which often lack corpus evidence. Instead, their descriptions of general language terms are largely based on expert-built dictionaries. This is why we see great potential in the cooperation between expert lexicographers and collaborative user communities. Besides joint work on editing the dictionary articles, we consider quality assurance methods based on user feedback as a clear enrichment for dictionary making. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Due to the diversity of natural language processing (NLP) tools and resources, combining them into processing pipelines is an important issue, and sharing these pipelines with others remains a problem. We present DKPro Core, a broad-coverage component collection integrating a wide range of third-party NLP tools and making them interoperable. Contrary to other recent endeavors that rely heavily on web services, our collection consists only of portable components distributed via a repository, making it particularly interesting with respect to sharing pipelines with other researchers, embedding NLP pipelines in applications, and the use on high-performance computing clusters. Our collection is augmented by a novel concept for automatically selecting and acquiring resources required by the components at runtime from a repository. Based on these contributions, we demonstrate a way to describe a pipeline such that all required software and resources can be automatically obtained, making it easy to share it with others, e.g. in order to reproduce results or as examples in teaching, documentation, or publications. Abstract:
We present a sentiment classification system that participated in the SemEval 2014 shared task on sentiment analysis in Twitter. Our system expands tokens in a tweet with semantically similar expressions using a large novel distributional thesaurus and calculates the semantic relatedness of the expanded tweets to word lists repre- senting positive and negative sentiment. This approach helps to assess the polarity of tweets that do not directly contain polarity cues. Moreover, we incorporate syntactic, lexical and surface sentiment features. On the message level, our system achieved the 8th place in terms of macroaveraged F-score among 50 systems, with particularly good performance on the Life-Journal corpus (F1=71.92) and the Twitter sarcasm (F1=54.59) dataset. On the expression level, our system ranked 14 out of 27 systems, based on macro-averaged F-score. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
In this paper, we introduce a novel Java implementation of multiple inter-rater agreement measures, which we make available as open-source software. Besides assessing the reliability of coding tasks using S, π, κ, α, etc., we particularly support unitizing tasks by measuring αU as the agreement of the boundaries of the identified annotation units. We provide a unified interface and data model for both tasks as well as multiple diagnostic devices for analyzing the results. (DIPF/Org.)

Abstract:
In this study, we analyze links between edits in Wikipedia articles and turns from their discussion page. Our motivation is to better understand implicit details about the writing process and knowledge flow in collaboratively created resources. Based on properties of the involved edit and turn, we have defined constraints for corresponding edit-turn-pairs. We manually annotated a corpus of 636 corresponding and non-corresponding edit-turn-pairs. Furthermore, we show how our data can be used to automatically identify corresponding edit-turn-pairs. With the help of supervised machine learning, we achieve an accuracy of .87 for this task.

Abstract:
We present WebAnno, a web-based annotation tool suitable for a wide range of text annotation tasks. The development of the tool was driven by the requirements of the CLARIN community, and the tool interacts with the CLARIN infrastructure. The ability to host multiple annotation projects being in parallel - yet isolated from each other - on a single installation of WebAnno makes it particularly attractive for research centers. The ability to fully configure projects via a web interface also enables non-technical staff to create and administer annotation projects. Further, it supports distributed teams of annotators, who are able to work remotely without having to install the software locally. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
This paper explores participative Social Information Behavior in the educational domain. The goal is to capture a picture of current information practices in the Social Web. The focus is on the "places" and the scale of the Social Web in the domain, the communication dynamics and structure of communities and the specificities, quality, pragmatics and success of communication processes. The paper describes the concept and current implementation status of an online analysis approach and system that tries to answer these questions. Furthermore, first empirical results are presented. Data indicates that participative Social Information Behavior is of relevance in the domain: The volume of openly accessible user-generated content is impressive. The basic characteristics of analyzed forums suggest that such websites resemble sustainable knowledge building communities. Pre-tests regarding the analysis of communication processes denote that generated content can often be seen as a valuable information resource.

Abstract:

Abstract (english):
The application of collective intelligence in the domain of language yielded collaboratively constructed language resources (CCLR) that can be used in a variety of ways. For example, Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and other language resources constructed through crowdsourcing such as Games with a Purpose and Mechanical Turk have been used in many ways in NLP. Researchers started using such resources to substitute for or supplement conventional lexical semantic resources such as WordNet or linguistically annotated corpora in different NLP tasks. Another research direction is to utilize NLP techniques to enhance the collaboration process and its outcome. Overall the emergence of CCLRs has generated new challenges to the research field that are to be addressed in the present book. As the research field of CCLRs matures, it has become necessary to summarize a set of results to advance and focus the further research effort.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
This article discusses the social bookmarking / social tagging service Edutags, which was developed by Learning Lab of University Duisburg - Essen and German Eduserver, in terms of its potential as a discovery tool for Open Educational Resources (OER). Three models are used that briefly outline options for the aggregation and retrievability of OER. The approach described here is essentially based on crowdsourcing, as well as machine-readable licenses and additional metadata.
