Abstract:
Selbstwirksamkeit, diskriminieren.
Abstract (english):
Only few instruments have been developed to assess such beliefs in teachers concerning various dimensions of heterogeneity following the wide definition of inclusion. In three studies we investigated the structure and the validity of three scales on heterogeneity beliefs. The scales were developed based on the instrument KIESEL by Bosse and Spörer (2014), adding two belief scales regarding cultural heterogeneity and performance-based heterogeneity to their scale on inclusive beliefs (i. e., teaching students with and without special educational needs within the same classroom). In several validity studies, we tested the sensitivity of the instrument regarding differences between groups as well as the assessment of beliefs development over time. Furthermore, the scales can discriminate between different constructs, for example, beliefs and self-efficacy.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
Critical thinking is a relevant educational skill that teachers should im- part to their students and use themselves in an evidence-oriented practice to justify their own decisions regarding their professional actions. Critical thinking comprises the ability to argue and integrate different information (i.e. scientific knowledge to experiences). The perception, presentation and weighing of different positions and information points in particular to critical thinking-processes. In this study, we therefore ask the questions (1) whether teachers argue in their written examination of pedagogical situations and, if so, what structure these arguments have, (2) which information they use in dealing with pedagogical situations and (3) if the information used are related to the structure of arguments. We analyzed 87 written disputes of prospective teachers in which they should select, describe and explain a pedagogical situation they encountered. We evaluated these entries with a qualitative-quantifying approach. Argumentation structure (non-argumentation, one-sided argumentation, two-sided argumentation) as well as integration of information (in- ternal, external, internal & external) were examined with a newly developed coding scheme. The results show that prospective teachers argue mainly on the basis of one position; a quarter of students integrate different positions (two-sided argument with arguments and counter-arguments). In addition, students largely use external information (e.g. textbooks) within their written dispute and the ability to argue on two sides is related to the integration of information (combination of intern and extern information). The results will be critically discussed with regard to the consequences for teacher education.

Abstract:
Dimensional comparison theory (DCT; Möller & Marsh, 2013) assumes that students compare their academic achievement intraindividually across domains to form domain-specific self-concepts. Upward dimensional comparisons are believed to lead to lower self-concepts in the worse-off domain, while downward dimensional comparisons should lead to higher self-concepts in the better-off domain. Furthermore, DCT assumes the net effect of upward and downward dimensional comparisons to be beneficial to the self. To test these assumptions, 3 experiments and 2 field studies were conducted investigating the relative effects of upward and downward dimensional comparisons as well as their net effect. In Studies 1 (N = 149), 2 (N = 150) and 3 (N = 300), participants were asked to infer self-concepts of fictitious students after receiving experimentally manipulated information about their achievements in 2 domains, whereas participants in Studies 4 (N = 2,268) and 5 (N = 20,662) assessed their own self-concepts in German and mathematics. In all studies, downward dimensional comparisons resulted in higher self-concepts, whereas upward dimensional comparisons led to lower self-concepts. The net effect of dimensional comparisons was always found to be not statistically different from zero. The findings therefore support the central prediction of DCT on the discreteness of the effects of upward and downward dimensional comparisons, yet do not support the assumed positivity of their net effect. Furthermore, results indicate the effect patterns to be rather universal as they were stable across different samples, domains, achievement situations, research designs, and types of assessment. Abstract:
Introduction. Multiple imputation (MI) is one of the most highly recommended methods for replacing missing values in research data. The scope of this paper is to demonstrate missing data handling in SEM by analyzing two modified data examples from educational psychology, and to give practical recommendations for applied researchers. Method. We provide two examples (N = 589 and N = 621, respectively) based on previous studies of students' self-concepts, mastery goals and performance avoidance goals, and a 7-step tutorial. Then, we produced 20% and 40% missing data under three missing mechanisms by these complete, genuine data sets. The resulting datasets were then analyzed by (1) listwise deletion and structural equation models (SEM), (2) full information maximum likelihood (FIML) with SEM, and (3) MI combined with SEM and pooling. Thus, the results stem from 2 x 3 x 3 conditions. Results. Previous research was replicated by illustrating a practical way to combine MI with SEM and pooling. The assumed factor structure was depicted in both examples with multiply imputed values applied. Discussion. We suggest adding variables to clarify the missing data mechanism, especially for dependent variables as motivation. Such variables might indicate whether missing values in dependent variables are correlated with independent variables (e.g., interest) or the dependent variable itself (e.g. lack of motivation independently of interest). Abstract:
Achievement goal research often differentiates performance approach from performance avoidance goal orientations. On a conceptual level, both performance goal orientations are supposedly founded in a shared normative evaluation standard, and two diverging goal valence dimensions (approach/avoidance). The aim of this article is to put this dimensional model to the test. In a first cross-sectional study (n = 321 pre-service teachers), we extracted all three underlying dimensions from items measuring performance goal orientations and successfully validated them with corresponding dispositional constructs (reference norm, regulatory focus). In a second longitudinal study (n = 1290 secondary school students), we showed that the extracted dimensions are meaningfully associated with antecedents (perceived competence, perceived competitiveness) and consequences (performance anxiety, interest) of performance goal orientations. The result pattern of both studies shows that a dimensional approach can explain the characteristic associations of performance goal orientations to antecedents and outcome variables as well as their interdependence. Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to get a first approximation of the usefulness of online forums with regard to information seeking and knowledge generation. This study captures the characteristics of knowledge generation by examining the pragmatics and types of information needs of posted questions and by investigating knowledge related characteristics of discussion posts as well as the success of communication. Three online forums were examined. The data set consists of 55 threads, containing 533 posts which were categorized manually by two researchers. Results show that questioners often ask for personal estimations. Information needs often aim for actionable insights or uncertainty reduction. With regard to answers, factual information is the dominant content type and has the highest knowledge value as it is the strongest predictor with regard to the generation of new knowledge. Opinions are also relevant, but in a rather subsequent and complementary way. Emotional aspects are scarcely observed. Overall, results indicate that knowledge creation predominantly follows a socio-cultural paradigm of knowledge exchange. Although the investigation captures important aspects of knowledge building processes, the measurement of the forums' knowledge value is still rather limited. Success is only partly measurable with the current scheme. The central coding category "new topical knowledge" is only of nominal value and therefore not able to compare different kinds of knowledge gains in the course of discussion. The investigation reaches out beyond studies that do not consider that the role and relevance of posts is dependent on the state of the discussion. Furthermore, the paper integrates two perspectives of knowledge value: the success of the questioner with regard to the expressed information need and the knowledge building value for communicants and readers. Abstract:
This paper discusses social media usage and quality evaluation for education related information seeking. To address this, we conducted a focus group study and an online survey with students enrolled in education related study paths. Altogether, results show that social media and classic or standard information resources do not compete but rather complement each other. Social media are primarily consulted in early phases of the information seeking process and for communication and knowledge management purposes. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this article, the authors describe the multiple phases of a project that was constructed around the real case of a young Muslim student who wished to be exempted from coeducational physical education on religious grounds. When the school refused her initial request, she decided to take legal measures which ended up in the German Federal Administrative Court. The court ultimately ruled in her favour. Her case was selected as the core ingredient for a new teaching project, which studies acculturation from different perspectives, and examines the complex balance between individual rights and societal duties, as defined by constitutional law in the Federal Republic of Germany. This case demonstrates that the majority society, represented in this study by the school, at times needs to change traditional educational policy in order to further national goals of integration; not as a compromise, but as a fair balance of interests. The project was implemented successfully as an integrated part of teacher preservice education occurring towards the end of the first academically based phase of their training.
